Supervision is a process of reflection on our work with a supportive and trusted professional with the aim of sustaining our capability and wellbeing at work. Quality supervision can help you solve problems, gain fresh perspective and insights, feedback, advice or ideas for dealing with complex work issues. In our increasingly demanding and changing work environments, support from a confidential supervisor is vital, as it can enhance your satisfaction with work and reduce feelings of stress and burnout. The agenda can be broad, include your work with clients, colleagues, managers and relationships within a team or the wider organisation. Issues brought may include communication, managing difficult personalities in the workplace, work-life balance, maintain wellbeing, preventing burnout, identifying strengths, building skills and competencies, identifying new career directions or navigating major life transitions and challenges.
My approach to supervision is to seek to foster a relationship where you feel safe to bring your hopes and fears, strengths, and challenges. I offer a collaborative space where you won’t be judged but helped to reflect on yourself and your work. I have a strengths-based approach, which helps build confidence and self-efficacy. I also use more process-oriented models, so where needed, will help you explore relational dynamics or transference and counter-transference with respect to your clients if your work is therapeutic in nature. We can discuss preferred approaches at the outset, as sessions are aimed at ensuring your needs are met, in a way that suits you. I will seek feedback on your experience and attempt as to tailor the sessions accordingly.
I supervise people from different professions and can adjust my approach, which can include supporting you to learn about how supervision works if you are new to this practice. I offer an initial free, 30-minute zoom appointment to see if there is a good fit between us. Once we have decided to go ahead, we can begin with negotiating a supervision agreement, i.e. your goals, needs and preferences, how we will work together as well as confidentiality, and accountability as needed.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to set up a time to discuss this in more depth.
